Flensburg, you would see shoes hanging throughout the town
About three weeks before we drove to Flensburg, I received a call from Kim Hoa, a lovely girlfriend that I knew from Cottbus. At that time Dustin and I were having a BBQ dinner in Dresden with Dustin's colleagues in his higher education course. Kim Hoa told me to call her back later, and I was a little anxious. My anxiety turned into a big surprise to know that she's gonna get married in three weeks. We are warmly invited to her wedding celebration which is gonna be in Flensburg, where her husband-to-be is currently working. That was a surprise for us, mostly because it's gonna happen so soon and Kim Hoa is still quite young in her second year at the university in Cottbus (well, young compared to me). During that time we also had quite many events going on, and the wedding is close to the DAAD welcoming event in Lübeck. Happily, the schedule was not crashing, which allowed us a weekend trip to the small town Flensburg in the North of Germany not far away from Hamburg. "It's gonna be a nice time there", I thought before the trip and with no surprise later, we had got a pleasant time enjoying the city near the sea and the wedding celebration on a ship.
Would you be willing to 'sacrifice' your shoes in Flensburg?
Checking some options for the travelling to Flensburg, we decided finally to drive there as that was the best option regarding the cost. Booking the tickets with the Deutsche Bahn just a short time before a trip is generally not cost effective. As we had the convenience of driving with the car, we also took two persons with us, two let's say important persons: Ms. Nga - the MC and singer and Mr. Ba Linh - the camera man for the wedding.
So let's start with the beginning of the trip, which was unluckily not smoothly on time. Due to some possible misunderstanding of the information. Ms. Nga did not prepare that we would drive already on Saturday, she thought she would be picked up on Sunday morning which was actually the wedding day. If with some logical thinking, it should not be feasible because we would not be able to make it to the wedding when we started on Sunday. Anyway, because of this misleading of information, Dustin and I drove to the apartment of Ms. Nga and needed to wait there for about an hour and a half so that she could prepare for the trip as well as call the camera man to come. Instead of beginning at 9.30 am, we could only start at about 11 am from Berlin to Flensburg. It took nearly four hours to arrive the town. Other than that, everything else was going rather smoothly. Kim Hoa has booked several bungalows near the beach for her friends and guests. We arrived the bungalow, having some early dinner grilled pork with noddle. Some of her friends wanted to stay at the bungalow and watched the Euro cup football matches. Others took a rest in their rooms. As for us, we wanted to discover the town as well as walked shortly to the beach, despite the gloomy cold weather. At first, we drove again from the bungalow near the beach to the town centre and walked around.

Houses here and there along the streets to the centre
Flensburg gives a feeling of a lovely small historic town with some orignal houses that were not destroyed during the war. There are also often a "Hof" - like a small courtyard for some houses together full of flowers and plants, which seems to be so peaceful and lovely.
What I really enjoyed was to see the ropes of shoes hanging almost everywhere near the centre. It looks interesting and sort of forms a special characteristic of Flensburg.
Some colourful houses near the centre. The town shows its lovely charm with houses in different sizes; some are tiny and decorated in cute pink, yellow,.. colours.
There are also areas where medium high residential buildings are built (in kind of no architectural consideration), which is not so charming but kind of convenient in fulfilling accommodation demands.
Nice street under a short-time sunlight
Decoration of cute ship and zeppelin.

Walking along the habour
The city centre is very close to the habour. I like the air with the smell of the sea in Flensburg, it makes us feel so fresh and alive. If the weather was not too cold, it would be much more enjoyable to walk around and breath in the sea air.
We were walking from the bungalows to the beach and back in gloomy late afternoon

The morning when we drove from our bungalow to the wedding venue, we made a stop at the lake with a view of the Flensburg Castle and made some photos.

Despite the weather condition, the guests have enjoyed a warm celebration. We wish that the couple will have a lifetime of joy, happiness and lovely sweet surprises!
